Summary
New amendments to the Youth Employment Standards Act (YESA) will impact libraries which employ minors, or which have minors as volunteers. This session will review the changes and provide information to help libraries comply with the new law.
Description
The Youth Employment Standards Act (YESA) affects the hiring of employees under the age of 18. The new amendments affect how work permits are to be issued, as well as the hours an employee (or volunteer) under the age of 16 can work. This session will review the changes and provide information to help libraries comply with the changes.
After this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the changes to YESA.
- Determine how the changes will affect their library's employment practices and policies.
- Discover possible steps to take to ensure compliance.
