Increase discoverability of and access to your unique digital collections by learning the basics of descriptive metadata.

Description

Digitization is a great way to increase access to your collections and help preserve them over time, but without sufficient metadata describing collections it can be impossible for users to find what they need. Join Marianne Swierenga, Cataloging and Metadata Librarian at Western Michigan University Libraries, for this webinar on creating descriptive metadata for digital collections. In this session you will learn the fundamentals of describing unique collections, be introduced to common metadata standards, and identify the appropriate level of description needed.

Instructor information: Marianne Swierenga is the Cataloging and Metadata Librarian at Western Michigan University. She is a member of the Metadata Committee for the Michigan Service Hub and the chair of MCLS's Linked Data for Libraries steering committee.

This project is made possible by grant funds from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) administered by the State of Michigan through the Library of Michigan.
