Summary

The Open Meetings Act (OMA) is an important but complex part of a public library's governance. This session will provide a refresh and an update of requirements and how they apply to a library public meeting.

Description

Who can speak during a public meeting? Who sets the agenda? Is a committee under the OMA? The Open Meetings Act is an integral part of a public library's governance, but it is also confusing and full of nuance. This session will provide a refresher on the OMA , and also discuss some amendments that are (hopefully) on the way!

After attending this event, participants will:

  • Be able to discuss the primary Open Meetings Act requirements of a public library board meeting.
  • Be able to assist trustees in determining appropriate attendance policies.
  • Be knowledgeable about proposed amendments and changes.
