In light of the diversity that complements us around the world today, it is crucial to recognize and celebrate the differences that make us unique. Inclusion is a term we see everywhere, but what does it really mean? It means creating spaces where everyone is welcome and all people feel represented and valued. These spaces include the classroom and the public library.

Inclusion in the classroom is important to create a sense of belonging, when students feel part of a community they have a greater chance of learning and being successful socially and academically. Inclusion also promotes respect for diversity and teaches students to value perspectives different from their own.

The library, meanwhile, is a great place to shape practices about inclusion by ensuring access to resources for all students and community members. When we make available books and resources that represent the different cultures around us is when we help to have a community that values and appreciates the world around us. Inclusion allows us to be empathetic and live in harmony.
