Summary

"Policy-ana" Syndrome - When libraries selectively enforce policies, or don't enforce certain policies except in extreme cases. No one likes to be the "Library Police," but failing to consistently enforce policies can have significant consequences. This session will discuss these consequences and provide tips on drafting policies and enforcement procedures that discourage "Policy-ana" Syndrome.

Description

No one likes to be the "Library Police," but not enforcing established policies can have significant consequences for libraries, staff, and patrons. While walking through the creation of a policy and its enforcement procedure, this webinar will discuss why policies on the books need to be enforced, will provide tips on making policies easier to enforce, and will discuss methods staff can utilize to enforce policies consistently to avoid becoming a "Policy-ana."

Participants in this webinar will be able to:

1. Identify why policies need to be clearly drafted and enforced consistently
2. Identify policies and enforcement practices in their library which may require modification.
3. Describe the key characteristics of well-drafted policies.
