Summary

Financial policies are not usually a main priority to public libraries. However, as government organizations, public libraries are held to many of the same accountability standards as other municipal and state entities. This session will review the key financial policies every public library should have.

Description

Although it may not be something libraries often think about, financial practices are an important part of any organization's operations, especially if the organization is a government entity funded by public money. What financial policies should a public library have in place? Do the types of policies differ for large libraries versus small libraries? What if your municipality handles your money? This session will address these questions and provide information to assist libraries with identifying the policies they may be missing.

Instructor: Clare Membiela, Library of Michigan, Library Law Consultant.
