Social media is an engaging and efficient tool for public libraries, but the utilization of these services comes with certain pitfalls that can cause headaches (and lawsuits) for public entities. This session discusses legal implications of common social media concerns- from posting guidelines to the removal of patron comments.

A participant in this session will be able to:

  • Identify social media pitfalls for public entities.
  • Identify policy elements that can mitigate the pitfalls most likely to occur in their library.
